Ellen, I didn't mean that 50+ year old teachers couldn't teach, only that 4 of the 6 English teachers at my school speak very little English in the classroom, don't believe in co-teaching, have never and aren't willing to attend one of Dave's trai...

The Devil's in the Details: Small things teachers should do!

I just spent a day evaluating Korean teachers in their classrooms, as part of the TEE (Teaching English in English) program. I'm going to keep away from that topic - it's still too raw, so to speak. However, I did take lots of notes and some things kept repeating themselves. Mostly small things that teachers weren't doing. So I thought I'd itemize things , small things that I feel all teachers should do… Continue

This is your brain....

I'm working on a brain unit, and thought I'd share some of my 'messing around' here.

I dissected a very nice interactive from the Alzheimer's Association to get this one...

That last pic leaves me with a new appreciation for brain surgery! What a tangle! And you can't just cut willy-nilly through that gray/white matter, either!

Bill Moorier got an MRI brain scan and decided to share it with the rest of us. ThContinue

Jacques Plante - A role model against bullying

50 years ago, Jacques Plante went onto the ice wearing a "mask". He changed "the face" of the game and even though he was bullied by many fellow hockey players, coaches and owners - he stuck to his beliefs and did the right thing.

He's a great role model for kids. In my own years in the ESL public school classroom - I found ESL kids to be the ones most at risk of bullying. Either because of their poverty, their ethnicity and funny accent, their "new kid on the block" status. So I think it is an… Continue

What is the "basics" of an education?

I really needed some inspiration today and got it in this STERLING essay by a Korean writer. He really hits the nail on the head - he really let's us know why we do what we do every day; plan classes, design lessons, council students, take attendance, research, go to meetings, call parents, check homework and yes - pick up our pay checks.

Enough of my boring introduction. Please read this! Also, this short text to speech video I made, compliments what he is saying.....

Back to the basics of

NEWS NOW

Korea is having to change its attitude to foreigners....

South Koreans Struggle With Race

On the evening of July 10, Bonogit Hussain, a 29-year-old Indian man, and Hahn Ji-seon, a female Korean friend, were riding a bus near Seoul when a man in the back began hurling racial and sexist slurs at them.

The situation would be a familiar one to many Korean women who have dated or even — as in Ms. Hahn’s case — simply traveled in the… Continue
